Forget everything you have ever known about fraternities! Omega Tau Sigma is like no other fraternity you have known. OTS is the professional veterinary fraternity that is represented at Cornell University and fifteen other veterinary schools around the country; and even Canada! What's all that aboot, eh? Every year, there is a nation-wide convention for OTS members at the Grand Council. The mission of OTS is to provide unique opportunities to students at the College of Veterinary Medicine in three separate areas. The first and most important is friendship. Even in a professional fraternity, the critical element is the fun, camaraderie, and teamwork that develop between colleagues and classmates. The second is action in the community. Omega Tau Sigma prides itself on the opportunities provided for personal development through service and participation in the community. A few of our events include the numerous blood drives throughout the year, the children's Halloween Bash, Charity Balls, and even date auctions! There is so much more to veterinary school than long hours in the classroom and through our activities in the community, we help develop future leaders. The third area of emphasis for OTS is social. No fraternity (or college curriculum) would be complete without a quality social outlet. Omega Tau Sigma provides this in the fullest measure whether it is our holiday dinners, themed parties or movie nights. The reasons for joining OTS are as diverse as our membership.

Cornell University's Beta Chapter designed the OTS coat of arms on January 5, 1924. Its colors are purple with gold letters and insignia. The shield stands for the organization, and is the central theme. It illustrates a group of members who have banded together under the OTS banner to further defend the animal kingdom. Figures on either side of and behind the shield portray the animal kingdom. The figures show that our interest is in all animals. The sword and the spear represent the tools with which we, as a group of veterinary students, are equipping ourselves in the defense of the animal kingdom. The crest in the form of the helmet with plumes attached was a sign of high royalty in medieval times. (According to heraldry, royal coats showed the helmet from the side). The OTS coat of arms reminds each individual in the organization that he or she is a part of an organization that calls for members to band together with the high ideal of promoting veterinary medicine.
